Blended Learning
Flexible & Efficient First Aid Training
At High Five First Aid, we offer blended training options for most of our courses, combining the best of face-to-face, practical learning with the flexibility of online study. Courses available in a blended format include: First Aid at Work (FAW), Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), Emergency First Aid for Sport, Emergency First Aid for Schools and Paediatric First Aid at Work (PFAW).
Thanks to our blended approach, the in-person training time is significantly reduced.
The benefits of blended learning are clear — reduced time away from work, greater flexibility for learners, and cost savings for organisations releasing staff for training. It’s a modern, efficient way to keep your teams qualified, confident, and compliant.

Blended
How long are the blended courses?
The HSE requirements for the courses remains the same, however the face to face learning time decreases significantly.
For example:
EFAW courses are now just 3 hours face-to-face (down from 6).
FAW and FAW Requalification require only 1 in-person day (formerly 3 and 2 days).
The PFAW course is now also just 1 day in-person (previously 2 days).
Assessment & Certification
Practical assessments are conducted during classroom delivery, a further online assessment is undertaken, certification can be printed/downloaded by the delegate on successful completion of the online component. Certification is valid for 3 years and is HSE compliant.
Under the current guidelines it is strongly recommended that first aid trained staff attend a half-day update every twelve months.
How does it work
Delegates complete the practical element first, followed by the online modules in their own time. EFAW learners must complete their course within 3 weeks, PFAW with 6 weeks and FAW learners within 10 weeks. Certification is issued once all elements are successfully completed.
Are blended courses compliant with HSE?
YES!
The HSE allows blended learning for workplace first aid training if:
The practical skills are taught face-to-face — This includes CPR, recovery position, and use of a defibrillator.
The training provider ensures the learner gains the same knowledge and skills as they would in a traditional course.
Assessment of practical skills is carried out in person by a qualified instructor.
The blended course meets the required learning outcomes and duration, even if some content is delivered online.
